History & character

From Noble Seat to Vibrant District

Sieglanger-Mentlberg is a district in the southwest of Innsbruck with a rich history. Around 1490, the farm on Gallwiese was expanded into a noble seat, known today as Schloss Mentlberg. Over the centuries, other significant buildings emerged, including the pilgrimage church of Mentlberg, consecrated in 1770. With the incorporation into Innsbruck in 1904, a new era began for the area, which increasingly urbanized. In the 1930s, settlements for the unemployed were built in the Sieglanger plain, strongly shaped by the community. The post-war period saw further developments, including the construction of multi-storey apartment buildings and single-family homes in the Mentlberg settlement. Today, Sieglanger-Mentlberg presents itself as a vibrant district that offers both quiet residential areas and good connectivity to the transport system.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation. In the Inn valley the winter sun reaches only 19 degrees at midday, while the mountain ridges to the south rise 10 to 19 degrees above the city. Measured for 21 December, the terrain costs just under two hours in Hötting, a good two in the city centre, close to three at Sieglanger and six and a half in Amras below the Patscherkofel.
