History & character
From Roman Times to the Present Community
Götzens has a long history, with the first settlement likely existing during Roman times, as evidenced by findings in the area. The first documented mention dates back to the years 1078–1091 under the name Gecinis. In 1313, Götzens is mentioned as an independent tax and land community. The Vellenberg Castle, located within the town, was an important stronghold in the 13th century but was ultimately destroyed in the 17th century after several earthquakes. The Geroldsbach, flowing south of the village, caused repeated flooding in the past, leading to the construction of a protective wall. These historical events continue to shape the development of the town today.
Today, Götzens is a quiet community in the Innsbruck area, characterized by its location on the western mid-mountain terrace and proximity to the Kalkkögeln. The municipality covers an area of 9.72 square kilometers, a large part of which is forested. Götzens offers its residents both agricultural land and a natural environment that invites recreational activities.

Climate & environment
On hot summer days, local cooling matters. Some water nearby brings a bit of cooling.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation. In the Inn valley the winter sun reaches only 19 degrees at midday, while the mountain ridges to the south rise 10 to 19 degrees above the city. Measured for 21 December, the terrain costs just under two hours in Hötting, a good two in the city centre, close to three at Sieglanger and six and a half in Amras below the Patscherkofel.
