Patsch

History & character

From the Oldest Settlement in the Mountain Region

Patsch is considered the oldest village in the southern mountain region, with many field names indicating pre-Roman and Roman settlement. The first documented mention dates back to the period between 1142 and 1147. In the early Middle Ages, Patsch was an important center of a market community and a mother parish. The construction of the Brenner Railway between 1864 and 1867 brought economic prosperity to the community through land compensations. A significant building is the Obere Sill power plant, built in 1903, which was the largest power plant in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy at the time. Today, Patsch is a quiet municipality characterized by its location at the foot of the Patscherkofel and its proximity to Innsbruck. Nature reserves and hiking trails offer recreational opportunities in nature.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation. In the Inn valley the winter sun reaches only 19 degrees at midday, while the mountains and slopes to the south rise 10 to 23 degrees above the city. Measured for 21 December on a third floor, the terrain costs a good two hours in Hötting, almost three in the city centre, a little over three at Sieglanger and almost four in the middle of Amras. At the foot of the slope below Schloss Ambras it takes all of the direct sun: the slope stays above it all day, only just at midday.
