History & character
From City Wall to Popular Residential Area
The Villacher Vorstadt is historically part of the urban area of Klagenfurt and extends west of the former city wall. It was connected to the city center via the Villacher Tor. Over time, the district, which was slightly expanded in 1893, developed into a popular residential area, especially due to its proximity to Lake Wörthersee. The northern part of the district, at the foot of Kreuzberg, is referred to as the 'villa district', where many villas in the Wörthersee style have been built. This makes Villacher Vorstadt one of the most expensive residential areas in the city. The district has evolved from its historical roots into a vibrant and sought-after place to live, combining both natural and urban elements.
