History & character

From Flatschach to St. Ruprecht

St. Ruprecht, originally called Flatschach, was first mentioned in a document in 1213. The name derives from the Slovenian word blato, meaning swamp. In 1550, the area was renamed after Saint Rupert. The parish of St. Ruprecht can be traced back to 1283, making it older than the main parish of St. Egid in Klagenfurt. In 1850, St. Ruprecht was established as an independent political municipality, and with its connection to the railway network in 1863, the area experienced significant population growth. Between 1869 and 1934, the population increased from 758 to over 5500 residents. In 1938, St. Ruprecht was incorporated into the city of Klagenfurt.

Today, St. Ruprecht is a district located southeast of Klagenfurt's city center. Its geographical boundaries are defined by the Südbahn, Rosentaler Straße, Ebenthaler Straße, and Glanfurt. St. Ruprecht combines historical elements with modern living options, offering a quiet, rural atmosphere close to the city.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation. Along the southern edge of the city the Sattnitz ridge rises: the southern horizon measures 11 to 13 degrees there and over 20 on the slope itself, while the winter sun reaches only 19.9 degrees at midday. In Viktring, Stein and southern St. Ruprecht this costs winter sun; on the valley floor (4 to 6 degrees) the terrain does not matter.
