History & character
From City Wall to Modern Suburb
St. Veiter Vorstadt is part of the historical city area of Klagenfurt, extending north of the former city wall. It was connected to the city center by the St. Veiter Gate. In the past, the area was characterized by agricultural operations and mills along the Glan River. The Waisenhauskaserne and the fine cloth factory of Johann von Thys are examples of the economic development in the region, which also had military historical significance. Today, St. Veiter Vorstadt is a lively district shaped by the Klinikum Klagenfurt and various infrastructural facilities. The mix of residential areas, historical elements, and modern amenities makes this district an interesting place to live.
