History & character
From Floodplain to Business Hub
The Gewerbegebiet Roßau was originally a floodplain by the Inn River, belonging to the municipality of Amras, which was incorporated into Innsbruck in 1938. In the 18th century, there were plans to drain the floodplain for agricultural use, but these were unsuccessful due to regular flooding. It was not until the 20th century that the area was finally transformed, having retained a small floodplain forest until the 1950s. During World War II, the Reichenau camp was located here, initially serving as a reception camp for Italian civilian workers. From the 1960s onwards, Roßau increasingly developed into a business area. The establishment of companies, such as the Milchhof Innsbruck in 1963, marked the beginning of this transformation. Today, Roßau is an important center for industry, trade, and services, characterized by a variety of businesses and an attractive recreational area at the Baggersee.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation. In the Inn valley the winter sun reaches only 19 degrees at midday, while the mountain ridges to the south rise 10 to 19 degrees above the city. Measured for 21 December, the terrain costs just under two hours in Hötting, a good two in the city centre, close to three at Sieglanger and six and a half in Amras below the Patscherkofel.
