History & character
From Pasture to Villa District
Saggen, a district of Innsbruck, originally served as a pasture and part of the urban peace. Over the centuries, the area, which was connected to the city by a bridge in 1581, gradually transformed from agricultural land into an urban space. A development plan from 1886 led to the establishment of the current villa district, while a second wave of construction starting in 1898 shaped the block district. These architectural changes reflect the historicism of the Gründerzeit and give the district its characteristic charm. Today, Saggen presents itself as a quiet and green neighborhood, distinguished by its villas and gardens, while also offering proximity to the city center.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation. In the Inn valley the winter sun reaches only 19 degrees at midday, while the mountain ridges to the south rise 10 to 19 degrees above the city. Measured for 21 December, the terrain costs just under two hours in Hötting, a good two in the city centre, close to three at Sieglanger and six and a half in Amras below the Patscherkofel.
