History & character
From Roman Times to Obritzberg-Rust Market Town
Obritzberg-Rust has a long history that dates back to the late Neolithic period, as evidenced by numerous archaeological finds. The area was part of the Roman province of Noricum in antiquity and also contains remnants from the Hallstatt period, as well as place names from the Celtic era. The church hill in Obritzberg was mentioned in 888 with a fortification. In 1148, Obritzberg was granted the status of an independent parish. The development into the present market town began in 1850 with the establishment of the local community of Obritzberg, followed by the separation into Obritzberg and Kleinrust in 1883. In 1967, these two municipalities were reunited, and in 2004, Obritzberg-Rust was elevated to market town status. Today, Obritzberg-Rust covers an area of 41.47 square kilometers and consists of 25 localities surrounded by a forested landscape.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
