History & character
From Bavarian Settlers to Urban District
Spratzern is located by the Traisen River and was first mentioned in documents in the 12th century. The first Bavarian settlers likely settled in the area around the year 900. In 1850, Spratzern became a municipality, later expanded to include Teufelhof, Pummersdorf, Nadelbach, Hafing, and Schwadorf. During World War I, a prisoner of war camp was located here, which attracted many railway workers after its dissolution and significantly changed the demographic profile. The incorporation in 1923 and the regulation of the Traisen also promoted the growth of the area. The construction of the Westautobahn, which lasted from 1938 to 1958, also left its mark on the region. Today, Spratzern is a district of St. Pölten, with its boundaries largely merged with the urban area. The character of the place is now urban, featuring a mix of residential areas and infrastructural facilities.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
