History & character
From Wogenrand to Urban Development
The town of Wagram is located in Lower Austria on the Traisen River and has a long history of settlement dating back to the Lengyel culture around 4800 BC. Wagram was first mentioned in a document in 1083. Originally a farming village, Wagram formed a municipality with Stattersdorf in 1850. In 1923, the town was incorporated as a district of St. Pölten. In the years following the incorporation, there was intense construction activity, characterized by cooperative housing developments in the 1930s. During this time, the Hubert-Schnofl settlement and the garden settlement 'Deutscher Schulverein' were created. The primary school was built in 1936, followed by the consecration of the parish church in 1937. The construction boom continued in the 1960s with the completion of the St. Michael settlement in 1964. Today, Wagram presents itself as a quiet district, characterized by a mix of single-family homes and newer developments.
