Biedermannsdorf

History & character

From Roman Times to a Modern Community

Biedermannsdorf, a market town in the Vienna area, has a long history that dates back to around 7000 BC. Archaeological finds indicate settlements from around 5000 BC. During Roman times, the area likely belonged to the district of Vindobona. The first documented mentions date back to the late 12th century. The name Biedermannsdorf derives from an old German word meaning 'righteous'. Over the centuries, the town faced various challenges, including religious wars and plagues. Under Maria Theresa, houses were numbered for the first time, and industrialization began with the construction of the Wiener Neustädter Canal and the establishment of brickworks. By 1822, Biedermannsdorf was a village with 86 houses, which included a parish and a school.

Today, Biedermannsdorf is a quiet community with 3166 residents (as of 2026) located in the Vienna Basin. Its good connections to Vienna via the A2 motorway and the Laxenburg-Biedermannsdorf train station, as well as the surrounding waterways and cycling paths, create a pleasant living atmosphere. The rural surroundings and proximity to the city make Biedermannsdorf an attractive place to live for commuters and families.
