History & character
From Wine Region to Modern Market Town
Perchtoldsdorf is a market town in the Mödling district of Lower Austria, stretching along the southern city limits of Vienna. Historically known as a wine village, the area today offers a blend of urban living and nature-oriented recreational spaces. The western part of the municipality is home to the Föhrenberge Nature Park, which, with its diverse flora and fauna and popular inns, is a favored destination for those seeking relaxation. Until the 1960s, the Perchtoldsdorfer Heide was used for agriculture and also served as a winter sports area. The remnants of former quarries testify to the region's industrial past. Residential areas such as Tirolerhof and Theresienau, which originated from former estates, have developed over the years into vibrant neighborhoods characterized by well-developed infrastructure and close connectivity to Vienna. Today, Perchtoldsdorf is a sought-after residential area that combines rural charm with proximity to the big city.
