Alliiertenviertel

History & character

From the Congress of Vienna to a Modern Neighborhood

The Alliiertenviertel in the 2nd district of Vienna, Leopoldstadt, derives its name from the allied powers of Austria, Russia, and Prussia who met here in 1814 during the Congress of Vienna. The Alliiertenstraße, which runs through the neighborhood, was named in 1909 to commemorate this historical event. In the 20th century, the area was sometimes referred to as "Nordbahnviertel" together with the adjacent Volkertviertel. The development of the area was influenced by the construction of the Russenschleife after World War II, which served as an important connection for rail traffic.

Today, the Alliiertenviertel is characterized by a mix of historical and modern buildings. Two churches line the street Am Tabor, while the former Agricultural-Chemical Federal Research Institute, now housing a district court, is located on Trunnerstraße. Newly designed green spaces, such as the Else-Feldmann-Park, contribute to the quality of life in the neighborhood. The Alliiertenviertel is now a peaceful residential area, distinguished by its central location and good access to public transport.
