History & character
From Prehistoric Settlement to District
Atzgersdorf, a district in the 23rd Viennese municipal district Liesing, has a long history dating back to the Neolithic period. Archaeological finds indicate that the area was already settled in prehistoric times. The first documented mention of the place dates back to 1120. Atzgersdorf developed as a street village at an important traffic junction connecting Mauer with the Triester Straße. In the 18th century, the place gained significance as a pilgrimage site. After the abolition of the feudal system, Atzgersdorf became an independent municipality in 1850 and was incorporated into Greater Vienna in 1938. Today, Atzgersdorf is a quiet district characterized by a mix of residential areas and historical elements. Its proximity to Vienna and rural atmosphere make it an attractive residential area for many.
