History & character
From Independent Municipality to Vienna's Cadastre Community
Inzersdorf, originally mentioned as Imicinesdorf or Ymizinisdorf between 1120 and 1125, was an independent municipality until 1938. The area developed as a village around a central green space, heavily influenced by destruction during the Turkish sieges of Vienna. Under the Geyer von Osterburg brothers, Inzersdorf became a center of Protestant teaching. In the 19th century, the village experienced industrial growth, particularly in brick production, which became an important economic factor. However, its incorporation into Vienna led to economic decline as many brickworks were lost. Today, Inzersdorf is a district in the 23rd district of Liesing, characterized by its quiet residential areas and proximity to nature. Remnants of the brick industry are still visible in the form of lakes, such as Steinsee, which shape the landscape.
