History & character
From Suburb to Popular Residential Area
Untermeidling is a district part of the 12th district of Vienna, Meidling. In the 19th century, it was an independent municipality and was divided from Meidling into Obermeidling and Untermeidling in 1806. The historical center of Meidling remained in Untermeidling. Over the years, the district developed into a popular summer retreat, supported by the sulfur springs of the Theresienbad and the Pfannsche Kurbad. From 1857, the area between Meidlinger Hauptstraße and Aßmayergasse was built up, leading to an increase in population. In 1890/1892, Untermeidling was finally incorporated into Vienna. Today, Untermeidling is a quiet residential area with a mix of historical and modern elements, characterized by its good connection to the city and proximity to nature.
