History & character
From the First Mention to Today
Hetzendorf is one of the oldest settlements on the southern edge of Vienna and was first documented in 1114. The area was an independent municipality until 1892 and then became part of the 12th district of Vienna, Meidling. Despite its incorporation, Hetzendorf has maintained its local identity as a loosely built residential area in green surroundings. The district is significantly distanced from the district center and has not disappeared into Vienna's sea of buildings, giving it a unique character. A building protection zone exists around the palace and along Schönbrunner Allee, Strohberggasse, and Schlöglgasse, safeguarding the historical substance of the district. Today, Hetzendorf is characterized by a blend of historical buildings, such as Schloss Hetzendorf, and modern residential complexes, creating a quiet and pleasant residential atmosphere.
