History & character
From Leopoldau to Donaufeld
Donaufeld is a district of Vienna in the 21st municipal district of Floridsdorf. Originally, the area belonged to the municipality of Leopoldau. In the mid-19th century, numerous factories and residential buildings were established here, leading to the formation of the localities Neu-Leopoldau and Mühlschüttel. In 1881, these two places were separated from Leopoldau and formed an independent municipality, which was renamed Donaufeld in 1886 to avoid confusion. In 1894, Donaufeld merged with other municipalities to form the large municipality of Floridsdorf, and in 1904 it finally became part of Vienna. Today, Donaufeld is one of the 89 cadastral communities of Vienna and is characterized by a quiet residential atmosphere shaped by its industrial past.
