History & character
From Strobelinstorf to Strebersdorf
Strebersdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1078 and originally bore the name Strobelinstorf. This name may either derive from a person named Strobo or from the Stroblern, who produced straw mats. These mats were important for pulling salt ships ashore. Over the centuries, the name changed several times until it finally took its current form. Until 1910, Strebersdorf was an independent municipality and was then incorporated into the Vienna municipal district of Floridsdorf.
Today, Strebersdorf is one of the 89 Vienna cadastral municipalities and is characterized by its geographical location. The town center is designated as a building protection zone, highlighting the historical significance of the area. With a small wine-growing region and proximity to the Marchfeld Canal, Strebersdorf offers a quiet, rural character that is ideal for those who appreciate living in nature while still having the conveniences of the city within reach.
