History & character
From River Village to Suburb
Reinprechtsdorf is a district in the 5th district of Vienna, Margareten, and was first mentioned in a document in 1270. The settlement originated as a river village along Schönbrunner Straße, between Groh- and Spengergasse. In the late Middle Ages, this settlement became desolate, but the name remained as a land designation. From 1730, the first houses were built on Margaretenstraße, developing into an independent suburb of Reinprechtsdorf. The incorporation took place in 1850 as part of the new 4th district, Wieden, before Reinprechtsdorf was assigned to the new 5th district, Margareten, in 1862. Today, Reinprechtsdorf is a quiet district characterized by its historical development and proximity to the city center.
